Adopt a Great Pyrenees (long coat)

Meet Dirk!  This gorgeous, big, affectionate Great Pyrenees boy loves his humans!  He was born approximately August 1, 2013.

Dirk is a sweet soul who had a bit of a rough start in life - he has lost one hind leg. Dirk does not want you to feel sorry for him.  He wants family who will treat him like a normal dog and provide him with a secure, stable life.  Above all, he wants to be loved, be accepted, and feel secure.  

He needs a calm, quiet home with adults only.  We want to be sure he doesn’t accidentally get knocked down.

He is not one to take for walks, as he does not take kindly to seeing other dogs when he’s out.  He would do best in a home where he can stay in the house and back yard, and doesn’t have to go for walks; he finds them stressful rather than fun.

This handsome boy is house trained, crate trained, and rides nicely in a car.  He is pretty responsive (for a Pyr) to basic commands such as come, sit, down, crate, go.  He is playful and likes to play with toys.  He loves, loves to be brushed with any kind of brush you have!  

He can be an only dog if his humans are home a lot, or he can live in a home with other dogs of a certain temperament.  What he needs in a canine companion is a male or female who is confident, laid back, nonreactive, and can anchor him and provide him with a sense of security.

He has high prey drive and cannot be in a home with cats or other small critters.  

Dirk is not one for a novice dog owner.  He will do best with someone who is experienced with dogs and who has some knowledge of dog behavior and their body language. 

Dirk is available for adoption exclusively in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, or someone willing to drive to the area to get him.

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere.
